Abstract

Two new 16-hydroxybriaranes, 11-dehydroxybriavioid B (1) and 12-epi-briastecholide L (2), have been isolated from an algal-containing octocoral identified as Briareum stechei. The structures of metabolites 1 and 2 were corroborated by extensive 2D-NMR studies and comparison with literature data. Briarane 2 was found to reduce the release of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) to 87.92 %, at a concentration of 10 μM.
