Abstract
Acanthosis nigricans is a distinctive entity, easily recognisable. Clinical studies have revealed its relationship to genetic influences, malignant neoplasms, endocrine diseases, obesity, and drugs. Its importance as a marker of malignancy cannot be over emphasised. Its possible causation by a hormonal peptide needs to be looked into. It deserves to be better known.
