Abstract

It always takes a long time to dissect the lateral neck to find the appropriate vein in the traditional technique for ventriculoatrial shunting (VA shunt) procedure. To make the procedure easier, we use a 8.5 Fr. percutaneous sheath introducer set with a 'J' shaped tip flexible guide wire. (ARROW®) in a whole set, to insert the atrial catheter of the VA shunt. We believe that the new technique provides a great improvement to the procedure of percutaneous approach for VA shunt including reducing the operation time, cost and the associated complication.
