Abstract

This paper presents a PC-based automated test system to determine the magnetization characteristics of switched reluctance motors (SRMs) as functions of the winding current and rotor position. The automated measurement system takes into account not only the magnetic nonlinearity but also the static iron losses of the magnetic materials. The sensitivity and uncertainty analysis of this measurement system are also given in this paper. The automated measurement system has a friendly graphical user interface which provides easy manipulation and clear presentation of analysis results. Experimental results with good accuracy on a 1-kW, four-phase, 8/6-pole SRM are presented to validate the correctness of the proposed automated measurement system. Moreover, the proposed automated measurement system can also be applied to identify the magnetization parameters of other electromagnetic components or devices.
