Abstract

Portable devices, such as laptops and notebook computers are developed fast recently, which places an ever-increasing demand on display technology. Nowadays, Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp (CCFL) inverter has been used as the backlight source for the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD). For minimizing the component count and size, high-frequency zero-voltage- switching resonant converter is required. In this paper, a FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array)-based zero- voltage-switching resonant converter for driving CCFL with dimming control is presented. The proposed system consists of a FPGA-based digital controller, which is flexible and compact. A 3-W test system will be built, from which experimental results will be provided to validate the feasibility of the proposed system.
