Analyses of acoustic band gaps in phononic crystals using PWE and FDTD methods

In this paper, we present analyses of band gaps in phononic crystals. The plane wave expansion (PWE) and finite difference time domain (FDTD) method are introduced and adopted to analyze the band gaps of tungsten/silicon phononic crystals. The dispersion relation shows acoustic band gap (ABG) in hundred MHz range for the micrometer scale phononic crystal. In this phononic crystal, the acoustic band gap variation due to the filling fraction and temperature is presented. In addition, the transmission is also adopted to analyze the band gap and more details are revealed by demonstrating the displacement field.
