Analysis of dynamic characteristics by unbalanced magnetic forces for brushless DC motors

The unbalanced magnetic forces will be induced from magnetization configurations of permanent magnet and exciting currents of slotted stator, and defined as design parameter to reduce the dynamic wobble during high-speed motion in spindle motor of DVD system. Owing to the mechanical-electromagnetic eccentric configuration, the dynamic characteristics of rotor motion can be equivalent as gyro motion and induced impulse acceleration in high-speed motor kinetic system. The magnitude of unbalanced magnetic force will be transferred into both axial and lateral directions of spindle motor, and the tracking rate and prolong the retry period will be seriously degraded during the data storage process in DVD system. In this paper, an experimental method will be constructed to measure unbalanced magnetic forces, which are designed by types of axial geometric configurations between rotor and slotted stator in DVD spindle motor, and will be applied to evaluate the dynamic performances.
