Abstract

In this paper, the Kalman filtering technique is used in the estimation of wind speed for hazard warning systems. To obtain real-time estimation results from the measures of wind velocity, a Kalman filter is adopted in anemometer signal processing. The estimated state vector may be further used in formulating decision rules to support safety systems such as the dispatch system of mass rapid transit (MRT) during bad weathers. In the proposed scheme, a state vector with the wind velocity and wind acceleration is used. Both of the estimated velocity and acceleration from the Kalman filter are applied in the decision-making process to supplement the safety status assessment, and to enhance the performance of anemometer warning systems.
