Abstract

Recent studies about Taiwan power system indicate that this system exhibited voltage stability problems under severe N-2 contingencies in heavily loaded hours. We will report feasibility studies of using STATCOM to mitigate this problem. The singular value decomposition method will be utilized to identify weakest buses for STATCOM placement. The required rating is determined by planning criteria. Three enhancement strategies will be investigated. The preference order of enhancement strategies are also discussed.
