Abstract

Three cases of intracranial aneurysms of the posterior circulation presenting a high surgical risk were treated using electrolytically Guglielmi detachable coils (GDC) and electrothrombosis via an endovascular approach. All of the patients were clinically diagnosed as having subarachnoid hemorrhage resulting from ruptured aneurysm. All the three aneurysms were considered as having operative difficulty. Complete occlusions of the aneurysms with preservation of the parent artery were achieved without complication. The preliminary result attest to the fact that the technique of endovascular occlusion of intracranial aneurysms using GDC may provide a therapeutic alternative in the management of surgically difficult posterior circulation aneurysms.
