Abstract

Emergency surgery for acute colitis is a challenging procedure with high morbidity and mortality. Retrospective reviews of our thirteen acute ulcerative colitis cases that had received emergency operations revealed three post-operative complications and three deaths due to sepsis. In the ten surviving cases, only five had complete intestinal continuity.
