Abstract

This study presents a new compact coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed rectangular antenna with a patched inverted-L stub. The proposed antenna transmits narrow pulses over a short range and provides a wide impedance bandwidthby adequately selecting the dimensions of inverted-L stubon the radiating path. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed antenna maintains the bandwidth of radiated power spectrum of 4 GHz ranging from 3.5 to 7.5 GHz under a 500 Mb/s data rate. The proposed antenna performs well in both frequency and time domain for impulse-radio ultrawideband (IR-UWB) communications.
