Abstract

Seventy-one patients with fibrous dysplasia were treated at the Chang Gung Craniofacial Centre. This paper reports the results of treatment, reviews the disease, and provides an update on recent information regarding the pathogenesis and behaviour of the disease. Treatment options include observation, cosmetic contouring, subradical resection with or without bone graft reconstruction and radical excision with primary reconstruction. Treatment protocols based on the four craniofacial zones are discussed as well as those governing prophylactic decompression of the optic nerve.
