Abstract
This study describes a novel passive Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) electronic seal (e-seal) and explains how this product, when combined with Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and Road Top Unit (RTU) devices, can be applied to the non-stop automated escort and gate system deployed in Taiwan. The proposed system enables the immediate and automatic identification and tracking of a sealed container during its transportation between different container terminals. Unlike existing manual escort and gate systems, a truck loaded with e-sealed container does not need to stop at the gate of an automated escort and gate system. However, a container will be stopped for physical inspection at checkpoints if the read data does not match the database. Customs can use this system to replace the manual escort and reduce the inspection time for transit containers. The successful deployment of the proposed e-seal replaces escort operations, enhances customer clearance efficiency, ensures the safety of containers, and reduces costs.
