Abstract
Iatrogenic inferior epigastric arteriovenous fistula (AVF) has not been reported as a complication following diagnostic or therapeutic abdominal paracentesis. A 72-year-old man with cirrhosis of the liver developed inferior epigastric AVF after therapeutic abdominal paracentesis. AVF was suspected on physical examination and confirmed by color Doppler study. It resolved one week after ultrasound-guided compression. To our knowledge, this is the first published report of iatrogenic inferior epigastric AVF after abdominal paracentesis being diagnosed by ultrasonography and treated by compression with an ultrasound transducer.
