Abstract

A 69-year-old female presented with upper gastrointestinal bleeding diagnosed as a giant polypoid gastric carcinoid (5x3x3 cm) by endoscopic biopsy in December 1992. Radical subtotal gastrectomy with Billroth II anastomosis was performed and no metastasis or tumor recurrence has been noted to date. This report emphasizes the importance of alertness to the presence of such carcinoids and the contribution that a 'well biopsy' can make to their treatment.
