Abstract

We propose an experimental investigation on the dispersion behaviors of antisymmetric flexural (ASF) modes propagating along a wedge with a thin coating on one of the wedge surfaces. Two kinds of matrix/coating combinations are investigated: a slow-phase-velocity coating on a fast-phase-velocity matrix and a fast coating on a slow matrix. It is found that the phase velocity of the ASF mode for the coated wedge starts at the same order as that for the wedge matrix in the low-frequency regime, and approaches the velocity in the coating in the high-frequency regime.
