Abstract

Technology acceptance model (TAM) and innovation diffusion theory (IDT) are massively used to discuss the success of web technology that the constructs such as usefulness, ease of use, related advantage and complexity are identified relevant to technology adoption. Innovation is prior to technology breakthrough, know as technology-oriented innovation (TOI); however, successful web technology innovation is seen as new service that meets user's needs and encourages usage of the website. The goal of this paper is to examine the extent user-oriented innovation (UOI) affect the effectiveness of innovation process through a case research undertaken in a new multimedia web application development of fashion retailing. TAM and IDT are adapted to test user's perceptions, innovation features and user's intention to use the novel information technology and information system (IT/IS). As a result, the higher web system adoption of UOI indicates that users involvement does improve the low acceptability of TOI. It also shows that TAM and IDT constructs are different in their tendency to TOI and UOI process. A UOI-to-user's acceptance framework is drawn for empirical research on the development of technology, and in the second place, managerial implications for successful innovative technology development.
