Abstract

A double blind crossover study comparing zopiclone 7.5 mg and triazolam 0.25 mg in 15 Chinese insomniacs was undertaken. Both drugs were found to be effective. Items indicating 'sleep quality' and 'night waking' in Spiegel's questionnaire and in Leeds Sleep Evaluation Questionnaire were significantly more improved by zopiclone than by triazolam. There were no serious side effects during the trial. Bitter taste was the most common side effect of zopiclone. Rebound anxiety and insomnia were more prominent in patients with triazolam.
