Abstract

In this paper, we investigate the effect of different restoration sequence upon multiple failure recovery in multi-wavelength WDM networks. The major difference among these arrangements is on restoration speed and resource utilization. We develop heuristics to find restoration sequence for dynamic traffic demands with different quality of service requirements. Especially, we adopt the aggregate rerouting technique to speedup the restoration process which also increases the topology resource availability. We evaluate the performance of our proposed scheme and compare with iterative failure-dependent recovery approach by extensive simulations in several target networks. From the simulation results we observed that about 15% to 28% reduction in restoration time and more than 90% in average over all traffics still survive under multiple failure conditions in denser network.
