Abstract

The electronic stopping powers of solids for slow atoms with velocities smaller than the Fermi velocity were calculated. The LFC dielectric function and electron densities screened by the conduction electrons in solids were used for the calculations. Stopping powers of Al, Ni, Ag, and Au were evaluated for atoms with atomic number between 6 and 18. Results showed that the stopping powers oscillated with atomic number which is consistent with experimental data. The approach yielded an improvement over theoretical calulations.
