Abstract

The fibular flap provides several advantages in one stage composite metacarpal reconstruction:(1) excellent skeletal size match for the metacarpus; (2) manipulation of multiple segmental fibular struts in contiguous or alternating parallel arrangement; (3) space without hindrance for intrinsic extensor tendon reconstruction (Brand's method) provided by osteotomies; (4) flexibility for skin paddle inset because of septocutaneous perforators; and (5) shortened patient disability time.
