Abstract

Gene therapy has converged with cartilage engineering in recent years, by which an increasingnumber of therapeutic genes have been explored to stimulate cartilage repair. These genes canbe administered to cells via in vivo or ex vivo approaches using either viral or nonviralvectors. This chapter reviews several therapeutic genes and delivery approaches underinvestigation. In particular, emphasis is placed on the application of various viral vectors ingene delivery as well their implications in cartilage engineering.
