Abstract

We report the thermal CVD from ethylene over graphite at 850 °C in which multiwalled carbon nanotubes grow at defect sites on the graphite surface. Pretreatments for rich defect formation are presented. Our investigations demonstrate that carbon nanotubes can be grown via CVD without the need for metal catalyst particles.
