Abstract

This study shows a theoretical modeling and experimental measurements for a piezoelectric plate loaded with a dielectric fluid layer on a single side. The fluid layer is modeled as equivalent elastic body with mass density and wave velocities same as the fluid. The theoretical model is based on a recursive asymptotic stiffness matrix method (RASM). A laser ultrasound technique is used to measure the dispersion relations. This study also investigates several parameters influencing the propagating behaviors of the bi-layer system. For all the investigated cases, the theoretical dispersion spectra agree well with the measurements. Finally, coupling effects for the guided modes propagating in the fluid-layer-loaded plate are characterized while the thickness varies.
