Abstract

Humans perceive their surroundings and the world through their sensory systems. In the process of interacting with the external world, physical sensations create psychological cognitions, allowing human beings to accumulate rich “qualia experiences” and establish unique aesthetic tastes and dimensions through this process of “corporeal perception.” The main objective of this study is to understand how people generate pleasures or disgusts after perceiving products and objects in their lives in terms of the needs of the “experiential economy” era and "human-centered” design principles. This study focuses on the haptic expressions of vision, sense of touch, and synesthesia. The authors explore the haptic experience and the relevant cognition from the visual association, touching by hand, and visual-touch synesthesia. This study consists of three major stages; Stage One: Delve relevant investigations such as “Material and Qualia,” “Interface and Transformation,” “Cognition and Dissemination Models,” “Haptic Experience and Need for Touch,” “Sensation and Synesthesia,” and “Product Semantics” to clarify research questions and formulate hypotheses through qualitative review of the literature. Stage Two: Coordinate experiments, hold focus group discussions, design research instruments, and implement haptic experiments. Stage Three: Explore research findings and conclude the statistical analysis of quantitative research. The main results of this study are as follows: (1) Propose the semantic expression of haptic imagery; (2) Establish a process for haptic experiments; (3) Analyze the influencing factors of haptic perception in terms of qualia products.
