Abstract

Due to increasing awareness of the central role played by mosquitous in transmitting parasitic and viral disease, the genomes of a number of mosquitoes are now being sequenced. This web summary mentions sites related to the genome database of one mosquito, Aedes aegypti, the vector for the dengue virus. Web sites on Mycobacterium avium, a potential source of human disease due to consumption of infected cattle, are also included. Along similar lines, sites providing informative and graphic descriptions of gastrointestinal infections by Aeromonas hydrophila and other foodborne pathogens are highlighted.
