Intubation granuloma of the larynx

Vocal process granuloma is an uncommon occurence which is possibly related to endotrachial intubation. Nineteen cases of intubation granulomas had been collected at Chang Gung memorial hospital from July 1992 to June 1995. The major factor was prolonged intubation. Meanwhile, the most common presenting symptom was hoarseness. All patients with vocal process granuloma received conservative treatment, three patients coughed out the granulomas spontaneously, and sixteen patients, persisted with husky voice, were then arranged for laryngomicrosurgery. Among them, ten were done by CO₂ laser. Postoperatively, no complication was found. After one year's follow up, there was no recurrence in all patients. Subjective evaluation of the voice quality revealed that 17 patients were normal and 2 were mildly husky.
