Abstract

A study on the isopropyl alcohol (IPA) dehydration system for fresh feed with equal molar of IPA and water was studied. Because feed composition of the waste IPA stream could vary widely, the overall control strategy for alternative designs are critically important in rejecting this feed composition disturbance. The operability of these process systems under proper overall control strategy were compared. Aspen Plus and Aspen Dynamics were used in the above design and control studies. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 2006 AIChE Annual Meeting (San Francisco, CA 11/12-17/2006).
