Abstract

This paper focuses on the study of lap joints for amorphous toroidal cores, where the magnetic losses related to lap-joint configurations are considered. Both of the conventional step-lap and a newly developed step-lap are addressed, in which the design and manufacturing process of cores are discussed in detail. To investigate the performance of magnetic properties, a 3-phase wound amorphous-cored transformer with capacity 1850kVA is constructed. Experimental results illustrate that the proposed step-lap joint core can provide better performance of lower core loss than the conventional counterparts.
