Nanostructure of type I collagen self-assembled in the presence of alginate

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contributionpeer-review

Abstract

The effects of alginate on the self-assembly of type I collagen were studied. Reconstitution of collagen was found to occur at about 1 hr after the incubating temperature was raised to 37°C. Although the morphology and diameter of the reconstituted collagen fibers are different under various conditions, the D-periods were found to remain the same regardless the alginate concentration. It was also found that type I collagen reconstituted in alginate had a morphology different from collagen reconstituted alone.
