Abstract

Fuzzy-logic-control-based (FLC-based) five-stage lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery charger can charge the Li-ion battery with shorter charging time and higher charging efficiency. However, optimal setting of the output membership functions (MFs) is hard to find. In this paper, fuzzy-based Taguchi method is utilized to determine the optimal output MFs. According to the experimental results, the obtained optimal MFs can improve the charging efficiency and the average temperature rise of the Li-ion battery by about 0.51 % and 17.5%.
