Abstract

A sixth-part model of a single-phase DC brushless motor is used to calculate the cogging torque, the torque constant kt and the coefficient of back emf ke of the motor. The phenomenon, where the cogging torque of the motor increases when the base board is changed to a ferromagnetic material, is observed from the simulated data and the experimental results. The decrease in kt, ke and the efficiency of the motor with the ferromagnetic baseboard is also observed. The results show that nonmagnetic materials are more suitable than ferromagnetic materials for constructing the baseboard of a single-phase DC brushless motor.
