Abstract

In this letter, we study the performance of parallel concatenated convolutional codes (PCCC) in a Poison optical channel with on-off keying (OOK) modulation. We modify the iterative decoding algorithm to apply PCCC to OOK modulation. The simulation results show that the PCCC has significant performance improvements over convolutional codes when signal energy is low. Therefore, PCCC is well suited for optical channels with signal energy constraints. The simulation results also show that the PCCC is still far away from channel capacity of Poison optical channel with OOK modulation.
