PID parameter tuning for flyback converter with synchronous rectification using particle swarm optimization

Abstract

In this paper, a particle swarm optimization (PSO)-based parameter tuning approach is presented. The PSO algorithm was used to obtain optimal proportional integral derivative (PID) controller parameters for a voltage mode flyback converter with synchronous rectification. Firstly, the simulation model of the converter was constructed using Simulink and the controller parameters were optimized via PSO algorithm. Following the simulation and optimization, the obtained controller was implemented utilizing a digital controller TMS320F28335, and the performance of the controller was analyzed according to output voltage regulation under load and input voltage variations. The performance of the optimized controller was then compared with the classical parameter tuning method. Comparing with Ziegler-Nichols (ZN) parameter tuning method and frequency domain method, the settling time of the proposed techniques can be improved by 61.8% and 71.83 % and the overshoot obtained can be improved by 87.6% and 68.9% respectively according to the experimental results.
