Abstract

A reference model of a Shop Floor Control Information System (SFCIS) using IDEF0 methodology is presented in this paper. Experience shows that in developing an SFCIS model the control information flow and the passing messages will highly relate to the applied control architecture and control functions. Therefore, in this paper an integrated perspective over them will be focused and serve as a basis for developing the desired IDEF0 reference model. With the incredible improvement in computer and communication technologies, a heterarchical shop floor control architecture is no longer unreal and has been considered widely. In this paper, the Brownes Production Activity Control (PAC) model is used to determine the concerned control functions. The object-oriented concept is also introduced in building the IDEF0 block. Consequently, the control information flow and message passing scenario between objects can be addressed simply in the IDEF0 model. In fact, the development procedure of this reference model also reveals a systematic approach close to the reality.
