Abstract

Interactivity is a hot topic today and an important medium for people to perceive art. Art has many possibilities for interaction, the impact of different types of interaction on audience’s perception needs to be explored. In this research, three artworks with different interactive forms in the art exhibition “Big Stuff” are used as the object of study. Using the communication theory proposed by Dr. Rungtai Lin and Ms. Sandy Lee, the research uses questionnaires with three levels, the “technical level”, “semantic level” and “effect level” to explore: the cognitive differences based on three different forms of interaction: mechanical interaction, experiential interaction and creative interaction. The research finds that: 1. Different audiences of different genders, ages, educational backgrounds and professions have shown similar differences in the evaluation of the three types of interactive artworks. 2. The audience’s preference for interactive forms cannot determine the audience’s preference for artworks. 3. Experiential interaction has the widest impact, followed by mechanical interaction, and finally, creative interaction, which is consistent with the order of preference of works.
