Research on the Development Path of “New Technology” and “Traditionalization” of Chinese Embroidery

Abstract

The contemporary development of Chinese traditional embroidery encounters both an external crisis brought by the development of science and technology as well as an internal crisis caused by the changes of consumption structure. Through the research conducted on contemporary environment and consumption trend in China, the article explicates a specific way of embroidery development, and puts forward a model of parallel development of traditionalization and new technology as a way to cope with specific problems met in embroidery development. And two different development paths, the innovative development and creative transformation, are analyzed in some typical cases. By means of discussion of innovative design concepts, integration of emerging materials as well as the assistant of science and technology, the embroidery would go deep in populace’s life to convey its culture value and to make traditional embroidery skills inherited. In this way, philosophical thinking and lifestyle of contemporary people will be reflected.
