Abstract

The bond-breaking model proposed for the degradation of solar cell performance is verified on the basis of a structural interpretation of the vibrational spectra of a-Si:H films. For films experiencing prolonged illumination, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy shows that distinct transitions can occur among various bonds, and EPR results indicate that dangling bonds can be produced. A model based on breaking of the three-center bonds is proposed.
