Abstract
A novel caryophyllane-related norsesquiterpenoid, rumphellolide 1 (1), which possessing an unprecedented cyclic ether bridge between C-4 and C-8, was isolated from the gorgonian coral Rumphella antipathies. The structure of 1 was established by spectral data analysis and this compound showed moderate inhibitory effects on elastase release by human neutrophils.
