Sensorless Current Balancing Control for Interleaved Boost 3X Converter

Abstract

Under conventional control, the steady-state voltage gain of the interleaved boost 3X converter (IB3XC) is three times voltage gain of the boost converter, but its two steady-state inductor currents are not balanced. In this paper, the sensorless current balancing control (SCBC) for IB3XC is proposed to yield the balanced inductor currents. In first, the average circuit behavior of IB3XC is analytically studied with the reduced state variables and the multi-switch average theorem. Based on the average circuit behavior, the sensorless current balancing control with unequal duty ratios is proposed to yield the balanced inductor currents. The rating selection of the power switches and diodes are also discussed. The proposed method is implemented in a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) chip. The provided experimental results validate the proposed control.
