Abstract

SoC solutions for network security applications in the next generation broadband communication and networks, called the Smart gateway system, will be investigated in this paper. The Smart gateway system is intended to provide the high performance, cost-effective and value-added networking gateway system for the ever-increasing internet security, management and versatile policy-based billing/accounting service requirements. This design will include an ASIC with fast ethemet ports, control/minor logic ports, and multi-platform management software. Smart Gateway ASIC can be used to build a single system (with embedded CPU or none CPU), or be integrated into the third-part switch system to buildup the management capability of their network products to easily conform the complex requirement in broadband network access applications.
