Abstract

The ionic mass transfer rate of a 1-2 electrolyte solution in ion-exchange membrane electrodialysis has been investigated with a glucose-sulfuric acid solution. The experimental results show that the mass transfer rate agrees well with the theoretical relation of (Nu)theo equals 5. 547 (Re multiplied by (times) Sc multiplied by (times) de/L)**1**/**3 under certain limits of the concentration of sulfuric acid, solution viscosity, temperature, flow rate, and channel width. The effects of temperature and concentration on the limiting current density are found to be linear, and are consistent with theoretical prediction.
