Abstract

A dual-band, low-phase-noise, low-power and small-sized voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) with an adjustable inductor and switched resonator is described. The dual-band VCO operates near 2.4 and 5GHz with a phase noise of -120 and -121dBc/Hz at a 1MHz offset and a tuning range of 250MHz and 1.2GHz, respectively. The power consumption is 1.5/1.8mW for 2.4/5GHz operations. The total size of the VCO is only 1.06mm2, which is achieved by using one inductor, which is connected to a switch to give good dual-band operation and performance.
