Abstract

This chapter is the “Bible” on microsurgical toe transplantation for reconstruction of amputated digits and mangled hand. The chapter features all toe flaps described for hand and digits reconstruction and goes in depth and detail on how to plan and reconstruct hand injuries from distal finger amputation to metacarpal and metacarpal-like hand deformities, taking into account timing, recipient site preparation, toe flap selection, flap harvest, inset, monitoring, and rehabilitation. A concise report on long-term outcomes after microsurgical toe transfers for a wide array of injuries requiring variable toe flaps and toe vascularized joint transfer was added to this edition.
