Abstract

Although the definition of overactive bladder (OAB) has been revised repeatedly since it was first proposed in the late-1920s, urinary urgency is always deemed the cornerstone symptom of the OAB syndrome. In this context, the treatment and outcome evaluation of urgency symptoms play an important role in research on the OAB syndrome. The present article reviews the literature covering the spectrum of normal and abnormal bladder sensation and a newly proposed conceptual parameter: the urgency-free time interval.
