Abstract

Outdoor air is reheated in the makeup air unit to control the humidity, justified only when necessary. It was found that different stages of the clean room operation would result in different sensible heat load ratios, and hence require different intensities of reheat. In principle reheat is necessary when the cooling effect of the treated makeup air is larger than the sensible heat load of the clean room. An operation strategy based on the above finding is proposed to balance the heat load requirement between the makeup air unit and the local air-conditioning coils in production sites. This control strategy is called the saturation temperature up gliding (STUG) control. Supply air temperature and reheat intensity are controlled corresponding to the variation of sensible heat load. It was found that this dynamic control strategy has 26% energy saving potential. More study is proposed to perfect this control strategy for general applications in industrial air-conditioning systems.
