Abstract
The goal of this project was to develop a web-based network clinic system that was applied to tele-medicine. We proposed a N-tier software architecture to resolve data accessing, medical imaging presentation and interactive communication problems. In data accessing, all types of patients' information were managed by an object-relational database management system. This mechanism provided a unified interface, ODBC, to archive patient's information records. In addition, we also developed a middleware to manage amount of user connection and query usage. It provided a high performance of data accessing for physician. In medical imaging presentation, an image-processing unit based on ActiveX was built in this study. This unit could not only display DICOM medical images but also manipulate images directly. It helps physician be able to view real image data on WWW. According to communication problem, we used PC based videoconference system and socket packages to provide a real-time interactive consultation between patient and physician. The systems had been experimented between National Taiwan University Hospital and Institute of Electrical Engineering of National Taiwan University to approve its function.
