摘要
What is behind the progress of microsurgery? Answer is simple. Surgeons and equipment. Yet, the way is not simple as the answer. Microsurgery is more than focusing on small anastomosis and keeping them patent. Microsurgery focuses on minimizing donor site morbidity and maximizing the aesthetic outcomes of both recipient and the donor site. This way of thinking is embodied by plastic surgeons who are creative, talented, patient, perseverant, motivated, and brave. The innovative microsurgeons incorporated technology and industry into field of microsurgery to develop new instruments and sutures. Even though finger replantation was considered advent surgery three decades before, day by day, it became routine microsurgical operation. Currently, microsurgeons have been discussing peripheral nerve surgery, perforator flaps, facial reanimation, voice reconstruction, harvesting flaps with using robotic devices and endoscopes, lymphedema treatment, super thin flaps, functional muscle transfers, chimeric flaps, and composite tissue transplantation. In the future maybe, more can be explored.
