摘要
A high speed turbulent flow past a projectile model at 60-degree angle of attack is investigated for gaining in-depth insights and understanding of the fundamental of complex three-dimensional vortical flows. The physics of the flow problem is assumed here to be represented by the Reynolds-averaged thin-layer Navier-Stokes equations implemented with a modified Baldwin-Lomax turbulence model for ideal gas. The numerical simulation conducted has provided extensive as well as intensive information on fundamentals of the vortical flow, from the onset of crossflow separation to asymmetric vortex shedding. For instance, one of the exciting findings is the evolution of a cross-sectional primary vortex; it is found that the formation process of a spiral vortex can be entirely different, depending on the outer flow conditions.
